Retina and uveitis care in Jacksonville

South Atlantic Retina is a private vitreoretinal practice on Jacksonville's Southside, serving adults and children across the Northeast Florida region.

Retinal problems are usually time-sensitive. A retinal detachment, a vitreous bleed, a flare of uveitis — these are the cases where the difference between being seen this week and being seen next month is the difference between keeping vision and losing it. This practice is built around that reality: urgent referrals are worked into the schedule the same or next business day.

Conditions we treat

Each of these has a full plain-English guide explaining what the condition is, how it is diagnosed, what the treatment options actually involve, and what to expect afterward.

What makes this practice different

Two specialties, one exam

Dr. Elkeeb is board certified in internal medicine as well as ophthalmology. Diabetes, blood pressure and autoimmune disease all show up in the back of the eye, and he reads those findings as part of a whole patient rather than an isolated picture.

Children as well as adults

Retinal disease is not only an adult problem. Children are seen here on referral from their pediatric ophthalmologist, eye doctor or pediatrician, and go back to them for continuing care. Pediatric retina.

Academic training, private-practice access

Dr. Elkeeb spent a decade as a university faculty vitreoretinal surgeon, medical director, and clinical trial investigator before opening this practice. Read his full background.

Imaging on site

Ultra-widefield retinal photography, OCT, OCT angiography, and fluorescein angiography are performed and read in the office during your visit. See our imaging.

You leave understanding your eye

Your own images are shown to you and explained. You should be able to describe your diagnosis to your family before you reach the parking lot.

For referring providers

Optometrists, ophthalmologists, primary care physicians, and endocrinologists can send urgent and routine retinal referrals directly. Reports go back promptly, and Dr. Elkeeb is reachable for questions about a patient you are unsure whether to send. Referral information · Insurances we accept
